Intensive Outpatient Program

If you are experiencing mental health challenges, we are here to help!

Alameda Family Services’ Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) provides structured support for individuals facing mental health challenges beyond the scope of traditional, weekly outpatient therapy. Designed for those who can keep themselves safe, but struggle to function at work or at school, the IOP helps individuals build coping skills in a compassionate environment - often enabling them to continue their daily responsibilities while receiving care.

What to Expect

Each IOP cohort operates on a rolling admission basis and follows an eight-week schedule, meeting three days per week throughout the year. Treatment includes daily skills-based group therapy, psychoeducation, relapse prevention strategies, medication management (as needed), weekly individual therapy, and ongoing family support as appropriate.

Upon starting the IOP program, clients will first meet with their assigned psychiatrist and primary clinician who will begin the comprehensive evaluation and assessment process, discuss treatment planning, and review medication history. Clients can expect to regularly meet with their assigned clinicians to support their treatment needs, typically once per week.

Psychological Assessments: A Better Understanding of Your Mental Health

For many, gaining clarity around their mental health can be truly life-changing.

At AFS, it’s not uncommon for individuals to come to us after receiving multiple — and sometimes conflicting — diagnoses in the past. We understand how important it is to finally get answers that feel accurate and make sense. That’s why we offer comprehensive psychological testing.

This in-depth process helps us develop a richer, more nuanced understanding of a person’s emotional, cognitive, and behavioral functioning. It offers insights that go far beyond what can be gathered through interviews or therapy alone — especially when symptoms are complex, overlapping, or when a diagnosis remains unclear.
