Alameda Family Services 
Alameda Family Services (AFS) is a progressive, non-profit agency that provides clinically sophisticated, comprehensive mental health and early childhood educational services to individuals and families in the City and County of Alameda. Divisions include: Early Childhood & Family Support, School Based Services, Crisis Services and Clinic and Community Based Behavioral Health Care (Counseling and a Clinical Training Program). Crisis Services Division 
This division encompasses clinical consultation and follow up clinical case management services for the Alameda CARE Team mobile crisis response, Enhanced Care Managers for youth and families, and therapists placed in transitional housing programs supporting the mental health and well being of residents.
 
Dignity Village
Dignity Village is a 47-unit interim supportive housing community in Alameda, CA that can serve up to 61 unhoused individuals, including five units for transitional-age youth. Five Keys handles the onsite operation of Dignity Village as well as case management and resident services. Those in need of housing will be referred through the Homeless Management Information System, which is managed by the Coordinated Entry Program of Alameda County’s Office of Homeless Care and Coordination (OHCC). This AFS Therapist will be co-located on the Dignity Village campus and serve the residents housed there.
 
Overall Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Alameda Family Services Division Director, this position is responsible for providing on-site, strength-based, trauma-informed and culturally sensitive individual and group therapy, as well as crisis de-escalation and milieu support to Dignity Village residents.
 
Job Duties
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide Intake assessments and develop treatment goals
  • Provide individual and group therapy, utilizing best practices including motivational interviewing, harm reduction, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness based interventions
  • Provide crisis de-escalation support as needed
  • Provide workshops and trainings to Dignity Village staff and/or residents on a variety of topics
  • Maintain client records and data as required by Alameda Family Services and funding sources by deadlines
  • Collaborate with Dignity Village case managers to support client’s housing goals
  • Navigate and develop strong working relationships with Dignity Village staff
  • Provide consultation on site to Dignity Village staff regarding clinical needs of residents
  • Provide meditation between residents and between residents and staff as needed
  • Attend and participate in Alameda Family Service’s individual and group supervision with clinical supervisor, Division Director, case conference and other AFS meetings/events as designated by Division Director
  • Attend outside (non-AFS facilitated) meetings and trainings as assigned and scheduled
  • Other duties as assigned by the Division Director

 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling or Social Work
  • At least one year prior experience/training in providing therapy to high acuity clients
  • One year prior experience/training with previously homeless populations preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders preferred
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
  • Embraces a strength-based approach to clients
  • Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Multi-lingual capacity a plus
Physical Job Description
  1. Ability to sit for at least 75% of the time and stand for 25%.
  2. Ability to travel between multiple locations to provide services as needed.
  3. Ability to use a desktop computer is required.
  4. Lifting of books, manuals, and other documents weighing up to 30 pounds may be encountered in performing essential functions.
  5. Ability to transport self between site and agency locations
Condition of Employment 
  1. A background check and clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) background prior to employment is required.
  2. A Health Screening Report completed by a physician and current TB Test Results are required prior to employment.
